Creating Your Account

Getting started with Wambai takes just a couple of minutes. Here's how to go from zero to tracking your first transaction.

  1. Go to app.wamb.ai and tap Get Started.
  2. Sign up using your email and password or your Google account.
  3. You'll be taken directly to the onboarding wizard.

Step 1: Create Your Household

Your household is the shared financial space where all your data lives. You'll be asked for:

  • Household Name — Something descriptive like "Family Budget", "My Finances", or "Home".
  • Country — Select your country. This auto-selects a default currency.
  • Primary Currency — Pre-filled based on your country, but you can change it. This is the currency used for reports and totals.

Tap Create Household and Wambai will set everything up for you — including a complete chart of accounts tailored to your country. You'll see a progress animation while this happens (it takes just a few seconds).

Step 2: Add Your Bank Accounts

Next, tell Wambai about your main financial accounts:

  • Account Name — The name of your bank or account (e.g., "Chase Checking", "Savings").
  • Currency — Defaults to your household currency, but you can change it for foreign accounts.
  • Initial Balance — Your current balance (optional but recommended for accurate net worth tracking).

You can add as many accounts as you need. If you want to keep things simple for now, you can skip this step and add accounts later.

Step 3: Review Your Accounts

Wambai shows you the accounts that were created, including the ones automatically generated from the chart of accounts template. This is a confirmation screen so you can see what's been set up.

Step 4: Set Up Income Sources

Tell Wambai how you earn money. Choose from common types:

  • Salary / Employment — Regular paychecks.
  • Services / Freelance — Client payments, contracts.
  • Rental Income — Property rentals.
  • Occasional Income — Side gigs, one-off payments.

Give each source a name and currency. This helps Wambai categorize your income correctly.

You're Ready!

After completing the wizard, you'll land on your Dashboard — your home base for managing finances. Wambai will also ask if you'd like to enable push notifications for payment reminders and achievement alerts.

What to Do Next

  • Record your first transaction using the AI assistant, Quick Entry, or Journal Entry.
  • Set up recurring payments for your regular bills and income.
  • Create a budget to start tracking spending against limits.
  • Invite household members to share the financial view with your partner or family.
